Signed between Britain and the US, defining Allied post-war relations and establishing goals for peace. Contained eight main points:
1. No territorial gains were to be sought by either country
2. Any territorial adjustments were to be in accord with the wish of all people involved
3. All peoples were to be given the right of self-determination
4. Trade barriers were to be lowered
5. Global economic co-operation and joint advancement of social welfare
6. All participating countries to work for a world free of want and fear
7. All participating countries to work for freedom of the seas
8. There was to be a disarmament of aggressor nations and, following the war, common disarmament
The Charter was the first defining step towards the goals of the United Nations, and marked the end of widespread colonisation.
