John Dalton was an English scientist who lived from 1766 to 1844 and reignited the atomic theory that begun hundreds of years previously. John Dalton was intrigued by the works of Democritus and decided he would carry out experiments to test the theory that matter was made of atoms. Dalton decided he would solve the age-old mystery. Dalton found that a perfect 2:1 ratio of different gases could react and form another gas. He went further to find that different element's atoms have different properties and created a chart which could even be considered to be the first periodic table. John Dalton's vision of an atom was still almost identical to Democritus' however.
