Admiral Dewey's force sailed into Manila Bay during the morning on a surprise attack in an attempt to disable the Spanish fleet in the region. The plan worked, and because the Spanish fleet was so surprised and woefully outcalssed, the U.S succeeded in crippling the Spanish pacific fleet in a matter of hours.
