16 nov 2007 anni - Mental Health Act (2nd Amendment)
Descrizione:
Revised the definition of "mental disorder“ as outlined in 1959 to “any disorder or disability of the mind” Alcoholism and drug addiction were omitted from classification as mental disorders.
The approved social worker role is phased out in favour of the approved mental
health practitioner role, which can
potentially be filled by anyone with
experience in supporting people with mental health problems, such as nurses, occupational therapists and psychologists. In addition, responsible medical officers
are no longer required to be medical practitioners.
Criticised by some mental health professionals as a capitulation to tabloid fearmongering about the danger posed by mentally disordered people, rather than being built upon a practical rectification of the inadequacies of previous Acts- concerns raised that it would result in mental health professionals being
"suborned as agents of social control"
