9 marzo 1989 anni - Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe

Descrizione:

Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe, 1989. On November 9, 1989, thousands of jubilant Germans brought down the most visible symbol of the division at the heart of Europe—the Berlin Wall. the Wall was the physical representation of the Iron Curtain, and East German border guards had to stand shoot-to-kill orders against those who tried to escape. The once-mighty Soviet Union had fallen, largely due to the great number of radical reforms that Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev had implemented during his six years as the leader of the USSR. The fall of communism in Eastern Europ was one of the most significant events because the communist governments had collapsed relatively peacefully throughout Eastern Europe due to strike and demonstrations and the lack of Soviets support.
