In China Bi Sheng (909 - 1051AD) invented the first movable type printing system. It was invented around 1040AD during the song Dynasty, It was expensive and time-consuming as it required a carved clay book for each Chinese symbol and a single carving mistake could result in a ruined sentence. However, the books were faster to print. Each block was carved for individual characters and hardened by fire so it could be re-used everywhere.
