Lieut. Walters, Geo. Neidhardt and others, all Germans and members of Co. I, 1st Reg. Colorado Volunteers, who came north from Fort Garland after receiving their discharge from the army. Loren Jenks and wife were also of the party. Mrs. Jenks being the first white woman in the county. The first house was built by George Neidhardt on the ranch now owned by Mrs. Wells near Villa Grove.
