This piece of legislation had an incredible impact both in the short-term and long-term. It required all educational facilities that received federal funding, to provide equal opportunities for all educational programs. Any discrimination would revoke federal funding.

This had a dramatic effect on sports, both in lower and higher education. It has also addressed issues such as sex-segregation, teen pregnancy, and sexual violence.

This policy was one of the federal government's most successful because it battled sex discrimination and enabled millions of women to engage in athletics (and all of the opportunities that go along with it).
