The masterwork of TIZIANO Vecellio (ca 1488-1575), entitled 'Amor sacro e Amor profano' in the Galleria Borghese in Rome is dated 1514. An early attestation of the painting is by a drawing <nella vinia Borghesi, Titianus> of Antoon VAN DYCK (1599-1641) in the sketchbook of his Italian journey 1621-1627. The famous art historian Erwin Panofsky (1) called it 'Geminae Venere' (Twin Venuses) based on an interpretation of the discourse about the two different kinds of love: Aphrodite Urania (the naked woman, long-lasting and committed love) and Aphrodite Pandemos (the fully dressed woman, the common love) in Plato's Symposium.
