They were capable of laying waste to the landscape if not ringed and their movement also had to be controlled, as the following indictment makes clear: 1687 <i>John Tailler, Oliver Wallker</i> ... <i>presented for their swine goeing into the Chourch yearde and routing up the grawfes</i>, Wakefield (WCR13/86).
