1 gen 1629 anni - rough mason

Descrizione:

The OED defines a rough mason as one who built only with unhewn stone, and examples of the word are given from 1444. Yorkshire references show that some men so described were dry-stone wallers. 1579 Anthony Whiteheade of Emmotte and John Reade, roughemasons, Elland (BAS6/138); 1612 Oswold Collyson, waller or rough maison, Birdforth (NRQS1/252); 1629 Richard Walker of Birstall, rough mason (DD4). However, the term is much older than that, and several rough masons are named in the York freemen’s rolls, for example: 1379 Rad. de Holdernesse, rughmason (SS96/78).
