Examples date only from the mid-seventeenth century: 1647 <i> a man for stealing a jump coate </i>, New Malton (NRQS4/272); 1657 <i> one jump coate 10s </i>, Halifax (QS4/5/36); 1676 <i> certaine wearinge clothes, viz a green jump coat, a pair of browne breeches </i>, Wath upon Dearne (QS1).
