Violence broke out, lasting three nights. There was a lot of anger due to racial inequalities between African American citizens and Jewish Citizens, who were beginning to get more and more opportunities than the African Americans. After Arthur Naftalin was elected mayor, the first jewish mayor, he acknowledged African American citizens conditions and promised to improve them but never did leading to many angry African Americans.
