One month before the end of World War II, FDR suffered a fatal cerebral hemorrage while spending time in Warm Springs, Georgia. Earlier that evening he complained of a severe headache and collapsed. The news of FDR's death was given to Vice President Harry Truman by Eleanor Roosevelt.Truman was now commander in chief of the military and was given the responsibilty for guiding troops to victory in World War II.
