On January 1st, 1942, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President FDR signed a declaration, along with 26 other countries, that promised to create an international postwar peacekeeping group. The United Nations was aimed towards preventing another conflict like WWII and it still exists and is very powerful for dealing with international issues.
