This was a conflict between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan. The Soviets invaded Afghanistan due to the Soviet-Afghan Friendship Treaty of 1978. Ultimately, 15,000 Soviet soldiers were killed. This led to Perestroika and Glasnost and the (downfall of Soviet union, weak and never recovered
