Just before 8am of December 7th, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the base. They destroyed and damages 20 American naval vessels, 300 airplanes, and 8 battleships. 2,400 Americans died during the attack and around 1,000 were injured. The day after, FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
