Democritus said matter was made up of tiny particles he called ‘atomos.’ According to Democritus, atomos were solid, homogeneous, and indivisible. He also stated that different matter was made up of atomos that have different characteristics, such as size and shape. Lastly, he said that changes in matter were caused by a changing of the grouping of atomos, not in changing the atomos themselves.
