Lumumba is dismissed from office by the president of the Congo. After he is thrown out of office the country is split down the middle between two political parties that are trying to claim the presidency. He was put on trial and jailed by the UN for attempting to make a rebellious and dangerous army. "Yesterday Big Shot sent a cable to Devil One with orders to replace the new Congolese government y force" (Kingsolver 294).
