31 agos 1888 anni - Jack the Ripper murders

Descrizione:

On August 31, 1888, the body of Mary Ann Nichols was found, dead, in the Whitechapel district of London, England. Between August and November, the murders of five young women were all linked to the mysterious "Jack the Ripper." The style of murder, which involved mutilation, hence the "ripper" namesake, linked the murders. Although there were more murders in Whitechapel during this time, only five are canonically linked to Jack the Ripper because of their similarities in mutilation, slicing, and removal of organs. The identity of Jack the Ripper remains a mystery, with over 100 theories of who he may have been. Three prominent letters supposedly written by Jack the Ripper were sent to different investigators of the case. The letters were signed "Jack the Ripper," and are considered to be the first time that name was used for the Whitechapel murderer. The nature of Jack the Ripper's murders drew attention to the horrible living conditions in Whitechapel and the social neglect that the area had suffered. The neighborhoods were eventually demolished, but museums and exhibits still talk about the murders, even today.
