Emmett Till was murdered on August 28th, 1955 after he had been driven and then mutilated outside of the car during the Memphis night. Emmett Till was a young man working in Chicago and had traveled down to Memphis arriving at a shop that he asked a woman something. She was offended by what he was saying and her husband heard about it and then Emmett Till was never seen alive again. This climaxed another one of the terrible murders of African Americans during the period and when Emmett Till’s casket was open to the public it really showed the horrors of the way these white men treated him. It sparked tons of unrest and further questioned how African Americans were being treated by whites.
