It took the Ottomans two months to take Constantinople. The city was heavily fortified and well protected. But, when they did seize the city they effectively put an end to the Byzantine empire. This victory spread Muslim influence further into Europe. The Byzantine empire lasted for more than a thousand years so the end of it changed a lot of things in the Middle East area.
