21 marzo 1965 anni - Selma to Montgomery March Mar. 7 - Mar. 21, 1965
Descrizione:
This march was a series of civil-rights protests that occurred in Alabama, a state with deep racist policies. The march was an attempt to register black voters in the South. Protesters marched the 54-mile route from Selma to the state capital of Montgomery. The activists were confronted by local authorities and white vigilante groups. They were, however, under the protection of National Guard troops. The protesters achieved their goal of walking around the clock for three days to reach Montgomery. The march raised awareness of the difficulties faced by black voters and of the need for a national Voting Rights Act.
