Sparked by Rosa Park's arrest, this boycott lasted 381 days. In those 381 days, African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery to protest segregated seating. This boycott is regarded as the first large-scale U.S demonstration against segregation and allowed Martin Luther King to emerge as a prominent leader in the American Civil Rights movement.
