Emmett Till was visiting relatives in Money, Mississippi when he was accused of whistling at a white woman, Carolyn Bryant. Carolyn Bryant was a cashier at a grocery store. Four days later, Bryant's husband Roy and his half-brother J.W. Milan kidnapped Till, beat him, and shot him in the head. Till's mother insisted on an open casket at the funeral. The men were tried by an all-white male jury and found innocent. Over six decades after the incident, Timothy Tyson revealed that Carolyn had admitted to him that she had lied about Till making advances towards her. Till's death galvanized the emerging Civil Rights Movement.
