11 lugl 1954 anni - White Citizens Council July 11, 1954

Descrizione:

This council was founded in response to the Brown v. Board of Education decision. The Supreme Court had abolished legal school segregation. The Whites in the deep South called this day "Black Monday." White segregationists and supremacists channeled their hate into creating a new movement called the Citizens' Councils. The movement was based on the notion that African Americans were inferior to whites. The group used weekly TV and radio programs to promote segregation. The Citizens Council created all white schools and sold lynching postcards. They later gained the title of "uptown Klan." The Citizens' Council claimed that it did not promote violence, but during their meetings they made it very clear that they fostered a violent, reactionary climate where punishment against blacks was sanctioned.
