1 gen 753 anni a. C. - Founding of Rome
Descrizione:
The foundation of Rome is the center of the myth of Romulus and Remus. According to the myth, Romulus and Remus were brothers raised by a she-wolf. They later founded the city of Rome in the location of their upbringing. They disputed the name of the town. Although in an early battle, Romulus killed Remus when he jumped over the wall that Romulus had built. Therefore Romulus became the sole king and namesake of the city and later of the Roman Empire.
The story was first recorded by Livy in his History of Rome. This mythic tale of Rome's creation gives the Roman leadership divine right to rule as a result of direct descendence. The Roman creation myth follows a trope of founding fathers having been raised by animals or having lost parents. This story likely drew on the tropes of other founding myths such as Oedipus Rex or the tale of Cyrus the Great.
