It was not long after the settlement of India that particular writings known as the Vedas, began to emerge. These sacred texts contained mantras, instructions on rituals and ceremonies, as well as discussions of worship, meditation, and so-called spiritual knowledge.

These texts would go on to become the oldest scriptures in Hinduism - a religion with a broad range of philosophies that would eventually have a complex system of beliefs about the natural world and its deities.
