Lexington and Concord were the first military battles of the Revolutionary War, and they occurred on April 19, 1775. The battle happened when hundreds of British soldiers, also called ‘Regulars,’ marched from Boston to the nearby town of Concord to seize a stash of colonial military supplies, including arms and ammunition. Paul Revere and other riders rode from Boston to alarm the local militias that the British were approaching. This warning allowed the militias time to line up and defend while the weapons were being moved. The British after torching some of the weapons, but most were hidden.
