- Carried out by SS (trying to hide they are the SS) and ordinary people (who were influenced by anti-semitism)
- Police stands by
- 100 Jews are killed
- 191 synagogues are burnt down, also main Berlin one, 814 shops looted

Aftermath:
- Jews were told they need to pay back money for the damage they caused (1 billion)
- 20,000 jews were arrested the following day and placed in concentration camps
- out of 437,000
