- Sergeant Pham Van Truong kills M. Noel (Brigade Commander) with a knife

- Eventually, Truong shoots Noel, decapitates his head, and brings his head to Sergeant Trinh Van Can

- Two other Vietnamese officers, Sergeant Hanh & Deputy Supervisor Lap, were murdered under Can’s orders prior to Noel

-Denounced brutality of Noel and Provincial Resident Darles, Can implored ~~ 150 guards to join in rebellion against the French

-Guards break into office of the resident, destroy telegraph equipment to prevent communication with Hanoi, seized arsenal, ransacked piasters (money) from provincial treasury, & ransacked houses of European residents

- Duong Van Gia, another sergeant, led thirty mutineers (soldier who rebels against traditional authority), left for the Thai Nguyen Penitentiary

- No resistance when entering the prison

- Killed the French warden and beat his wife to death w/ a hammer (;° ロ°)

- Soldiers release 220 inmates

- “We are rebelling because we have suffered much cruelty from Resident Darles… We go now to liberate the countries of Annam and expel the French”
