Russia signed an armistice with Germany and the other Central Powers. This agreement marked Russia's de facto exit from World War I, although it was a preliminary step before the final peace treaty.

The armistice negotiations began after the Bolsheviks came to power in Russia with the slogan "Bread and Peace". The agreement covered the land and aerial forces on the front from the Baltic to the Black Sea, as well as the Russo-Turkish front in Asia Minor.
