15 sett 4500000 anni a. C. - Formation of the Moon
Descrizione:
The formation of the moon was hypothesised by scientists to be caused by a collision between Earth and a protoplanet known as Theia. This impact produced and pumped large amounts of debris from both planets into space. Over time, this debris came together to form the moon (2). The moon plays a crucial role in the geosphere and atmosphere, by maintaining the Earth's angle that it's on in order to maintain normal climate patterns. The moon's gravitational pull also affects tide movements. Without some of these tide movements, certain species would not have been able to live under other conditions (3). This has come to be known as 'The Goldilocks Zone', as if the earth was tilted on any other angle, it would cause extreme climate changes and impact the overall habitation of the planet.
