31 lugl 1759 anni - The battle of Montmorency Falls and Wolfie's revenge
Descrizione:
Montcalm refused to attack the French so Wolfie took matters into his own hands and planned an attack. On July 31st 1759, 4000 British soldiers attacked Beauport and Montmorency Falls. As the 4000 men ran onto the small beach just below Montmorency Falls, they were bombarded with gun fire from the French, who were way up at the top of the cliff with no way to respond. The British were forced to climb the steep cliff by hand, allowing the French to merely throw rocks at them causing them to fall and die. Eventually they retreated and Wolfie was humiliated, he wanted to show those dirty British who they were messing with so he ordered men to burn the country side, to burn everything and take no prisoners. In all they burned 23 villages and more than 1400 farms.
This is an embarrassment to us all, we shall show them. Burn it all. BURN IT ALL.
We won, we won. Those idiot French thought they could beat us. HA!
