Spread of epidemic disease throughout the 1670s and forced labor conditions inspired a religious revival in the Pueblo missions. The Spanish violently suppress the revival, killing Pueblo shamans. In retaliation the Pueblo revolt and expel the Spanish (nearly exterminating the entire Spanish settlement). Disrupted a previously stable society, relationship between Spanish religious figures and the Pueblo.
