1 gen 3000 anni a. C. - Scroll
Descrizione:
With the invention of papyrus came the invention of the scroll, a convenient way of storing texts by rolling them up into a cylinder (Galbraith, 2020). This format is relatively easy to store and transport, and remained popular for centuries before being surpassed by the codex. Though first made of papyrus, scrolls later came to be made of other materials, parchment especially (Galbraith 2020).
Scrolls also developed in East Asia, where they were originally made of silk.
About the image: The Edwin Smith Papyrus is an ancient Egyptian medical text which was created in approximately 1600 BCE, and is believed to be a transcription of an even older text. It primarily contains information on the treatment of injuries (New York Academy of Medicine).
