the 1830 revolts in Italy were heavily in favor of progress towards a unified country. Nationalism was on the rise, and a series of insurrections sprang up. Many political figures, such as Francis IV, the duke of Modena at the time and a king of northern Italy hopeful, and Louis Phillippe stated that they would not quell revolts for a unified Italy, and in napoleons case, would even stop Austria from interfering. However, these were empty promises, and the Duke of Modena arrested many conspirators in 1831, while Louis Phillipe sat by and did nothing.
