North Vietnam offers a truce during the time of Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. However, the Viet Cong break their own truce by launching a full scale, all-or-nothing attack throughout South Vietnam. While its intensity shocks Americans who thought the war had nearly been won, it ends up being a major loss for North Vietnam.
