18 apr 1955 anni - The Bandung Conference

Descrizione:

In April 1955 twenty-nine African and Asian countries sent delegates to Bandung Indonesia to unite in independence against colonialism associated with the Soviets and US during the Cold War. The conference lasted six days and established solidarity among these newly independent countries to avoid being forced under Western power. Ultimately this conference established the Non-Aligned Movement. At this time in the Cold War, many African and Asian countries were annoyed with the Western powers' reluctance to consult them with decisions regarding and affecting African and Asian land and power. The countries bounded together to discuss peace, anti-colonialism, and the developing countries' roles in the Cold War. With increased cooperation between these developing countries they had a greater role in world affairs, crucial steps in decolonization, and established the countries’ Non-Alignment Movement. This movement prevented these developing countries from choosing sides in the war preventing further escalation and future colonization which likely would have happened if more countries became involved.
