The Proclamation of 1763, passed on October 7, 1763, prohibited colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. It was meant to prevent further conflict with Native Americans following the French and Indian War. This only ended up angering the colonists, as they thought they had the right to settle there after fighting in the war.
