27 nov 1989 anni - Electron Microscope / Blood Testing
Descrizione:
By November 27th, 5 more monkeys had died at Reston. Because of this, they decided to reinspect the electron microscope that the original samples had been tested on. The cells on it looked as if they had burst and were filled with worm-like structures. Based upon the look of them, the intern Tom Geisbert was able to determine that it was a Filovirus which looked a lot like Marburg.
Geisbert then took photos of the monkey cells and presented them to Peter Jahrling. They noticed that the worm-like structure looked slightly different than Marburg did. They took their findings to the Chief of Disease Assessment Colonel Clarence J. Peters who instructed them to continue testing the virus. They used their own blood to do so.
