Sometime in January 1990, a second outbreak occurred at the Reston monkey house. However, due to the lack of human casualties the first time, neither the Army nor CDC provided assistance and the virus was left to burn itself out. Eventually, every employee at the Reston monkey house tested positive for Ebola Zaire due to their constant exposure to the ill monkeys, however, none of the employees displayed any symptoms and they stopped testing positive within days. The disease that outbroke at the Reston monkey house was eventually named Ebola Reston, and despite being similar to Ebola Zaire was not the same. No one has ever pinpointed where Ebola Reston came from, however, its impact has led the CDC to enforce regulations on global monkey trades.
