Winston Churchill’s Iron Curtain Speech : June 10, 1946 A speech given in Fulton, Missouri by British prime minister, Winston Chruchill, in which he said that the US and the British must act as guardians of peace and stability against the Communist Soviet Union, which he said had lowered an iron curtain.
Truman Doctrine: March 12, 1947 President Harry Truman said he will do everything in the U.S.’s power to resist the growth of communism. He focused on Greece and Turkey, as they were currently in the process of being taken over by communists.
Marshall Plan: April 3, 1948 The plan gave 12 billion dollars to Europe after World War II. Europe used this money to rebuild themselves, resulting in a 35% increase in economic output.
Creation of NATO: April 4, 1949 This organization was created to defend against the Soviets. They pledged with one another to support each other in conflicts against the Soviet Union.
Geneva Accords: August 12, 1949 Aimed to protect sick/wounded soldiers from the war, sea, and prisoners of war.
Geneva Accords (Vietnam War): July 20, 1954 A set of multiple accords created at during the Geneva Conference, where the future of Vietnam was discussed and foreign involvement was removed Removed Communist influence from Vietnam and helped to bring North and South Vietnam together

Mao Zedong’s takeover of China: (1945-1949) During the Chinese Civil War, Mao Zedong led the Communists who became more preferred over the Nationalists by the common person as they did things to make the lives of the civilians better. They defeated the Nationalists and established the People’s Republic of China.
Berlin Blockade/Berlin Airlift : 1948-1949 The Soviet Union encircled and blocked all connections of West Berlin to the Allied Powers, so the Allies used air support to deliver supplies to the people of West Berlin, rather than retreating out of the area. Destroyed Soviet hopes of stopping the creation of a West German state and eventually led to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Korean War: 1950-1953 A war that started when North Korean soldiers invaded South Korea, which prompted the involvement of the US in the war. The US fought on behalf of South Korea and brought the war to an armistice, with around 5 million soldiers having died altogether in the war.
Dien Bien Phu: March 13, 1954-May 7, 1954 The battle was fought between the Viet Minh forces and French forces. The battle was fought near the village of Dien Bien Phu. This ended France’s power in Southeast Asia by ending the First Indochina War.
