29 nov 1807 - Embargo of 1807
Description:
In another attempt to avoid conflict, Jefferson shut down all exports, which was not the best of his presidential decisions. The embargo simply resulted in a decline in the commercial profits in America. The British and French stayed true to their policies, rather than changing them to receive their trade goods from the states. The embargo did resurge the support in New England from the Federalists, but that was about the only positive gain from the embargo of 1807. Key Concept 4.3.11
