These were the first battles fought for American independence from Britain. These battles took place on April 19, 1775. Colonists were tired of living under British rule, especially the colony of Massachusetts. The battle of Lexington occurred when Britain sent troops to get Samuel Adams and John Hancock. The battle of Concord happened when British troops went fo Concord to destroy a stockpile of weapons and ammunition. The Americans won these battles, and the British retreated.
