The Townshend Acts (5 jun 1767 año – 5 jun 1767 año)

Descripción:

The Townshend Acts were a set of acts that taxed many products coming out of Britain, including china, glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. It also created a customs board and new courts to curb smuggling. The decisions coming out of this setup were almost always more favorable to British interests. One of the acts issued punishing regulations to deal with New York’s failure to comply with the Quartering Act. The regulations were never enforced, as New York backed down and fulfilled their obligations. Additionally, the Townshend Acts allowed British officials to conduct searches in private homes and businesses. The colonists responded to the Townshend Acts by boycotting British products, with many merchants refusing to sell British imports. Eventually the Townshend Acts were repealed in April 1770. However, the tax on tea remained.
