Descripción:
Built sometime during the Hellenistic period, the Winged Victory of Samothrace is an 18-foot sculpture that depicts Nike, the Greek goddess of victory stepping towards the front of a ship, possibly to commemorate a successful sea battle. Charles Champoiseau, a French diplomat and archaeologist would discover it in 1863 broken into three peices and would send it back to Paris, where it has been displayed at the Louvre since 1883.
