When Joseph died, the next Pharaoh after him didn't know him or care about him or his family. And because the Israelites showed alarmingly fast population growth, the subsequent Pharaoh became afraid that they would overrun Egypt and ruin it by joining Egypt's enemies. So that Pharaoh enslaved the Israelites from around this time, and they only knew a slaves life until Yahweh delivered them out of Egypt a few hundred years later. Their total time as slaves was 105 years.
