Protestant Reformation (1 ene 1521 año – 1 ene 1648 año)
Descripción:
The Reformation was a movement within Western Christianity in the 16th-century Europe that posed a religious and political challenge to the Roman Catholic Church – and papal authority in particular. Leaders within the Roman Catholic Church responded with the Counter-Reformation and a series of wars and expulsions of Protestants. Northern Europe, with the exception of most of Ireland, came under the influence of Protestantism. Southern Europe remained predominantly Catholic apart from the much-persecuted Waldensians. Central Europe was the site of much of the Thirty Years' War and there were continued expulsions of Protestants in Central Europe up to the 19th Century. The end of the Reformation era is disputed, but the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 largely ended the European wars of religion and brought to an end this calamitous period of European history.
