HIV/AIDS Pandemic (1 ene 1980 año – 10 h 24 m, 13 jun 2025 año)

Descripción:

HIV/AIDS is a global pandemic. As of 2017, approximately 36.9 million people were infected with HIV globally. Sub-Saharan Africa is the region most affected. In 2017, an estimated 66% of new HIV infections occurred in this region. A reconstruction of its genetic history shows that the HIV pandemic almost certainly originated in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, around 1920. AIDS was first recognized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in 1981. Following initial infection, a person may not notice any symptoms or may experience a brief period of influenza-like illness. Typically, this is followed by a prolonged period with no symptoms. As the infection progresses, it interferes more with the immune system, increasing the risk of developing common infections such as tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors that rarely affect people who have uncompromised immune systems. These late symptoms of infection are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV/AIDS has had a large impact on society, both as an illness and as a source of discrimination.

Estimated Deaths: 35,000,000
